Pushing Boundaries in Decentralized Lottery: The Wenwin Journey

Wenwin, a decentralized, blockchain-based lottery dAPP, stood as a great example of the potential of decentralized finance. However, crafting a user-friendly and engaging experience for this globally accessible platform posed unique challenges and provided us valuable insights.

Walking the Tightrope of Global Accessibility and Local Jurisdiction

Wenwin’s global reach is one of its unique selling points, yet this globality had to be juxtaposed with local gambling regulations. We tackled this issue with geoblocking, preventing access in regions where local laws prohibit participation in such games. This solution balanced Wenwin’s global accessibility with respect for local legal considerations. Another solution was to decouple the user interactible frontend from the service itself and have them be separate entities. Thus visiting our website or our community did not violate any rules. The user had to accept that all responsibility for using the frontend lies with them. The term DYOR (Do Your Own Research) is widely applied to DeFi and Crypto projects.

Unleashing Creativity in Branding

Departing from the typical futuristic, finance-centric visual style of most Web3 applications, Wenwin embraced a more whimsical and engaging branding. Our mascot, a lucky cat, served as a playful yet meaningful symbol of good fortune, helping to create a fun and visually pleasing user experience.

The Wenwin odyssey has been a thrilling journey through the frontiers of UX/UI design in the decentralized landscape. As we continue to refine and expand Wenwin, we remain dedicated to unlocking new potentials, pioneering innovative solutions, and delivering exceptional experiences in the world of decentralized systems.

Unlike detailed blueprints that lay out all tasks, deadlines, bug reports, and more along the way, technology roadmaps are high-level visual summaries highlighting a vision or plans.

In an Agile approach, a technology roadmap feeds the sprint and grooming processes, providing insight into how the product will travel from start to finish it makes it easier.

Maintaining User Engagement

To maintain user engagement and instill a sense of urgency, we incorporated a rule that necessitated winners to claim their prizes within a 12-month window. Unclaimed winnings beyond this period would be reintegrated into the pool, promoting dynamic game flow and prompting users to claim their winnings promptly.

Responsive & adaptive design

With a responsive interface, Wenwin was designed to cater to both PC and mobile users, this project was targeted as mobile first, however during initial user testing I figured out that the same patterns don’t work for both mobile and pc users in the crypto space.
The mobile Web3 environment presented unique challenges, given that mobile wallets exist as separate applications, causing complexities when initiating transactions.
Some of the components had to be also made with adaptive design in mind (ticket cart and modals were a challenge in this regard).
